A whodunnit on the Pali
November 19th, 2009 by Paula BenderIt's not nice to drive like a butt. It's not nice to speed and weave in and out of traffic as though you were in some kind of Matrix-movie-NASCAR fanatasy. When it comes to driving, EVERYONE has to obey the rules.
What happens when someone doesn't?
Witnesses say that yesterday on the Pali Highway a gold compact car was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic, possibly causing two accidents near Coelho Way. Read about it here. The driver of the first car died at Queen's Hospital and his passenger was taken there in serious condition. Seconds later and a few hundred feet south on the Pali, another accident occurred. The Honolulu Police Department said it suspects the two accidents are related.
The driver of the gold compact left the scene. So not only did the driver cause death and destruction, destroying several families with a trail of wrecklessness, the coward fails to assist, runs and hides.
When I stress out about loved ones being on the road, it isn't their driving I question. It's the forces we cannot control. Laws are designed to control those forces, but some manage to escape.
Any minute we should learn that this driver was apprehended. What will we learn? Driving under the influence? Driving a stolen vehicle? Helpless loss of brakes? Hopeless suicidal tendenancies? Cruel carelessness?

I was there when it happened, but did not witness it firsthand, I was in the house at 1A Coelho Way, heard the series of crashes, the worst being right outside my window. I immediately called 911, then ran out to see if help was needed, then ran back inside to see if I could get a Doctor, as there are a few who live in that complex. I told the people the ambulance was coming and I prayed for them, I did not know they has been helpless victims. AUWE!!!!! SHAME on the person racing!!!!! SHAME on ALL the people who race our highways, without respect for lives and others rights. It could have been ANY OF US KILLED, and let me tell you something, whoever you are who is guilty, YOU DID NOT HAVE TO WITNESS THE VICTIMS BEING PULLED OUT OF THE CAR, NOR DO YOU HAVE TO FACE THEIR GRIEVING FAMILY MEMBERS!!! To the family members: God was there and with them, guiding them, loving them.

Read the other paper. It was reported that the dead driver was a habitual speeder, with many many tickets in the last 7 years, and that no evidence of a 3rd car was present.

I think it was reported in both papers and on TV, Scott. But, yes. To think people drive like that with passengers. When people drive with disregard, the ripple effect is impossible to define. Too many people can be affected with the accidental death of a pedestrian or a driver. Mahalo for your comment, Scott!
